Total 2.5

Total 2.5: 2.5 over / under

The 2.5 goals total is the most common "how many goals" door. Over 2.5 wins with 3 or more goals; under wins with 0, 1 or 2. The picture shows the number 2.5. The half removes the market's own "draw": 2 goals means under, not a push. A whole-number total of 2.0 returns your stake if there are exactly two goals. That is a different contract.

Total 2.5 in plain words

When people say "the total", they usually mean 2.5. The betting menu also has 1.5, 3.5 and the Asian 2.25. A 2.25 line splits your stake: part on 2.0 and part on 2.5. With two goals, half is a push and half is a loss on the over. Do not click an Asian line until you can draw it on paper. The school starts with the classic 2.5.

How it works

Estimate goals, not "it will be a great show". xG of 1.4 against 1.1 hints at an expectation of around 2.5 goals; it does not guarantee the over. A price of 1.90 / 1.90 on 2.5 means a margin of about 5%, as in the overround lesson. Your own estimate of "over at 55%" against a price of 52% is a case worth making. "It is hot today" is not an estimate.

  1. Choose the 2.5 line, not the first one you see.
  2. Put your probability for the over into one number.
  3. Compare it with 1/odds.
  4. A single for 1 unit (one stake, usually 1% of the bank), or skip.

Example with numbers

The match ends 2-0. Over 2.5 loses, under 2.5 wins, and a total of 2.0 is a push. One score, three different fates for three lines. In your diary, write the line in full: "over 2.5 at 1.91", not "the total". Otherwise, a month later you will not know what you bought.

Common mistakes

  • Confusing 2.5 with 2.0.
  • Taking the over because "both teams are on fire", without a number.
  • An over accumulator across four matches at a "goal fest".
  • Not checking which goals count: 90 minutes or including extra time.

What to write in your diary

A stake of 100 on an Asian over 2.25. Exactly two goals are scored. What is the result?
Odds of 1.90 on both over and under 2.5. Roughly what is the margin?
